2025-26 Sumner Summer Marching Band & Color Guard

(Updated 11/9/2025)

....................................................................................

Well, our fall 2025 competition-season is over and as you hopefully know, we did really well. We started things with our first competitive judged performances on Saturday October 11th at the SFOB and then had one of two rounds at the PSFOB in Everett, where we did more of our show but didn’t really get a chance to do things ready well in the poor weather and the cancellation of the second round. We put all of our effort over the last couple of weeks in preparing and cleaning-up things for the Auburn Veterans Day Parade and Field Show Championships on Saturday and hopefully you feel good about both our parade and field show performances at the big event. I’ve attached the Judges Scores-Recap for both the Parade and the Field Show, so I hope you take a look at them:

  • We WON the Parade and not only our Open Class Division, but we received the highest scores of any group in the Parade in all Divisions - and by almost 2 points. We really appreciate how hard all of you worked on “Our National March” and how good it sounded and looked. We played the piece 5 TIMES in front of the judges and each time it was really excellent. Your consistent excellence was truly amazing and I know that there were a lot of “WOWS” from the large audience. I haven’t heard or seen anything from the other judges near the end of the parade, but of course these judges were the ones that counted in the final points-totals
  • Our performance in the afternoon Field Show was BY FAR the best we had performed the “Wicked” Show. On Saturday I really felt that you enjoyed yourselves out on the Auburn HS field in the (thankfully) absolutely perfect weather (such a change from earlier in the week). When we came off the field and marched out of the stadium, it was so fun to see the smiles on your faces for what you KNEW was a great job. I think you did the best you could and that’s all you can ask for. As you know, we won every award in our Open Division with some really impressive scores. I know the disappointment that a lot of you felt when we couldn’t “four-peat” on the Championship but that’s the way it goes sometimes, but give credit to Wenatchee for a great job (remember, they had been second place overall for the last 3 years in a row) - they are an excellent Band Program and it’s a great “rivalry” we have going with them that helps both programs do their best. Maybe next year will be our turn again . . .

Anyway, it was an excellent beginning quarter to our year, with a large majority of the school-year left to go. We’ll have so many more moments together in so many different ways and it will be a terrific year, so feel good about what you’ve accomplished - WE ARE VERY VERY PROUD OF ALL OF YOU!! Thanks also SO MUCH to our parents and alumni who helped us throughout this season - you are a BIG part of our success and we wouldn’t be where we are today without you

Now, here we go back to work in this unusual week coming-up. We’ve got a performance on Monday afternoon at Daffodil Valley Elementary for their Veterans Day Assembly - a really cool event that we’ve done for the last few years. Remember, NO EVENING REHEARSALS this week so with the exception of the CG rehearsal Wednesday afternoon, you’ve got all the evenings free. Our Football Team has what is likely their last Home Game of the season and we’re going against Richland HS from the Tri-Cities area - a long drive but a very good team! WE WILL BE PERFORMING AT THE PLAYOFF GAME ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON - the Band Room will be open at 11:00AM and we’ll have our hats-on rehearsal from 11:30AM-12:00PM and then our regular break before we meet and warm-up in the Courtyard at 1:00PM and get ready for the game which will kick-off at 2:00PM (the game will probably be over by about 4:30PM). This is a REALLY BIG GAME (don’t expect a blow-out like we had on Friday night). We're in the “Sweet 16” of teams left to play this year, and each game will be tougher (if things go like the seeding expects, we may be traveling to Chiawana HS (in the Tri-Cities) for the next playoff game - likely on Saturday November 22nd (possibly a Pep Band). SO, let’s take a look at our upcoming 2-week schedule:

  • Winter Guard (new members welcome!) that will perform at the Holiday Parades

Again, thank you very much for a great effort in the Auburn Parade and Field Show. Let’s have a great short week together and get ready for our next challenges - see you Monday
