2025 Sumner Summer Marching Band & Color Guard
(Updated 9/7/2025)
Thanks for a great first week of the ‘25-26 school year, with rehearsals, our first Wednesday night full-group rehearsal, our first performances on Friday with the Washington State Fair Rodeo Parade and finishing off on Saturday with our Color Guard leading performance at the University of Washington Husky Band Day (great job by everyone - great job routine designing and teaching by Mrs. Carl and Mrs. Selle and thanks for chaperoning Mrs. Woolery!). Thanks to the upperclassmen leaders for showing their experience and being excellent role models, and thanks to our younger players who did a nice job and learned a lot about our Sumner HS Band Program culture. We did a lot of excellent things at our performances and we learned the importance of all the things we talk about:
- Responsibility in so many things we do - beyond just the music and routines
- Maturity and realizing that we do things at a very high level of excellence every time
- Expectations that we always have - we want to do a great job every time in everything
- Hard work but also having fun doing things at a high degree of excellence
The fun thing about our Sumner HS Band program is that we get to go out and build on what we already have done and to use our experience to be better - and we’ve got another group rehearsal on Wednesday night and 3 different performances (two on Friday and one on Saturday) to do that this week. We’re very proud of your efforts and we are very happy at your first week of the year - now we move on and keep doing a great job in Week 2. Remember what you’ve done well and try to correct anything you know you can do better. In a nutshell, we’ve got a busy 6-day week coming-up, including the following events:
- First Jazz Ensembles Rehearsals Tuesday and Thursday and Sectionals on Wednesday
- DL & MB Classes each day - working on our Halftime performance for Friday (Summer MB music and routine review and an encore performance of the Color Guard feature from Saturday’s UW Husky Band Day), new Pep Band Music and the start of our Field Show Opener to “Wicked” that we want to perform on September 19
- CG Rehearsals on Monday and Thursday with lots of routine work to do
- Our first Band Leadership Council Meeting (BLC) on a changed day - Tuesdays at 2:30PM
- Senior Band Parents Meeting at 6:00PM

Remember to communicate to us if you have any conflicts and/or absences - don’t just skip. Everyone in this group is important and we are only at our best if everyone shares that same idea. So, let’s have a great full 6-day week and learn and experience new things with this new group. See you Monday!
